Frequently Asked Questions

Each comprehensive assessment exam is 200 questions, broken into 60-minute timed blocks of 40 questions each. The number of questions on the non-comprehensive exams may vary, however all details will be provided on the exam registration page.

All USMLE Step 1 / Basic Sciences assessment exams are broken down into the exact same performance criteria as outlined on the actual USMLE Step 1 exam. Your performance feedback will be broken into three components: Discipline, Physician task, and System, with sub-components listed under each. Each exam will provide you with an 'overall score' as a percentage, and you will receive a percentage score for each component and sub-component as well. You will also get a breakdown of the numbers of questions answered correctly, incorrectly, and the number of questions that were changed from correct to incorrect.

These assessments are designed to be used prior to using your NBME assessment exams. Ideally, these assessments will be used at the beginning of your Step 1 preparation and spread out until you are approximately 75% of the way to exam day, using them throughout that timeframe. Once you're approximately 75% of the way to exam day, you should then start using your Qbank assessments and NBME exams.

We built this platform to be used as a supplement to your NBME exams, not as a replacement. The USMLEDx assessment exams were designed to be used prior to NBME exams so that you don't have to prematurely use NBMEs to identify your weaknesses. Using our assessments in the early and middle stages of your USMLE Step 1 preparation to identify your weaknesses and fine-tune your studies, and your NBME exams in the later stages of your USMLE Step 1 preparation, is the ideal way to get the most out of both.

For individuals purchasing assessment exams, you will receive a 5% discount when purchasing two (2) or more assessments at a single checkout.
